The One Thing That's Needful

Nov 14, 2019

In today’s episode, Dr. Siohvaughn Funches continues the series, “Favor on the Way.” Dr. Funches invites you to see in this series that God favors you along the way to receive the manifestation of His promise to you.

Dr. Funches recaps the message from last week about Ruth and Naomi and she will continue with that story this week. Dr. Funches invites you to listen to last week’s message if you have not heard it yet. We all face difficulties but for those who have entrusted Jesus with their lives, He promises to work everything together for our good. We all can relate to natural storms. During natural storms, visibility can be down. Spiritual storms are akin to that, in that regard. When people face spiritual storms or go through emotional challenges, these storms can cause visibility to be down.

Today’s message starts in 2 Kings about the help sent from God to Elisha. Elisha prayed that his servant’s eyes would be opened and the servant saw horses and chariots of fire all around them. Dr. Funches returns to the story of Ruth and Naomi and how Ruth was blessed to be able to see the favor of God, even going through the loss of her husband. Dr. Funches prays God to open your eyes to see His favor all through the journey. Ruth could have left her mother-in-law as Orpah did. God blesses her to provide for herself and Naomi. Dr. Funches compares Boaz as a picture of Jesus. Naomi is blessed with a grandson to nurse when Boaz marries Ruth. Through this lineage comes Jesus Christ.

Listen in to hear how God favors the New Covenant believer on the way to receive.

KEY BIBLE VERSES

[12:09] 2 Kings 6:15–17, NKJV 15 And when the servant of the man of God arose early and went out, there was an army, surrounding the city with horses and chariots. And his servant said to him, “Alas, my master! What shall we do?” 16 So he answered, “Do not fear, for those who are with us are more than those who are with them.” 17 And Elisha prayed, and said, “Lord, I pray, open his eyes that he may see.” Then the Lord opened the eyes of the young man, and he saw. And behold, the mountain was full of horses and chariots of fire all around Elisha.

[16:51] 2 Corinthians 9:10, NLT 10 For God is the one who provides seed for the farmer and then bread to eat. In the same way, he will provide and increase your resources and then produce a great harvest of generosity in you.

[20:57] Ruth 2, NKJV  (summarized)

[21:53] Ruth 2:11, NKJV 11 And Boaz answered and said to her, “It has been fully reported to me, all that you have done for your mother-in-law since the death of your husband, and how you have left your father and your mother and the land of your birth, and have come to a people whom you did not know before.”

[25:38] Ruth 2:12, NKJV 12 “The Lord repay your work, and a full reward be given you by the Lord God of Israel, under whose wings you have come for refuge.”

[27:09] Ruth 2:14, NKJV 14 Now Boaz said to her at mealtime, “Come here, and eat of the bread, and dip your piece of bread in the vinegar.” So she sat beside the reapers, and he passed parched grain to her; and she ate and was satisfied, and kept some back.

Blessed be the one who took notice of you.”

[37:42] Ruth 2:20, NKJV 20 Then Naomi said to her daughter-in-law, “Blessed be he of the Lord, who has not forsaken His kindness to the living and the dead!” And Naomi said to her, “This man is a relation of ours, one of our close relatives.”
